Type Locality and Naming
The Tazolé Formation forms the “Falaise de Tiguidit” (Tiguidit cliff – see Figure in Tiouraren Fm), a sandstone cliff that is shaped almost in a semi-circle southwest and south of the city of Agadez.. Group: Tégama Gr

Synonym: Tazole Fm, Tigguedi or Tiguedi Formation of Greigert & Pougnet (1967); Terzikasan Formation of Moody & Sutcliffe (1991). The Terzikazan, Amezrou, Anyeli, Tin Sakan and the lower part of the Girmaga formations of Molinas (1965). Equivalent(s): Angornakouer Fm (part of the Téfidet Gr) in Téfidet Sub-Basin
Lithology and Thickness
Coarse gray-white to purplish sandstones, quite hard, with a black patina, supporting coarse sandstones and fine silicified sandstones. Conglomerate levels are common; the “Batéma” facies are characterized by yellowish, beige, or red sandstones with medium grain and areas of gravel beds. Thicknesses range from a few meters up to an average of 150 m. In the southeast, it can reach 240 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Underlain by the Tiouraren Fm (Irhazer Gr). Although no apparent angular unconformity exists between the Tiouraren Fm and Tazolé Fm, the base of the Tégama Gr undoubtedly has an erosional contact with the underlying Tiouraren Fm.
